The Warkworth Show

Chair’s Report on the 2023 Show Saturday morning broke very wet, foggy and dreary to greet the 151st Warkworth Show, very large pools of water inside the marquee, but in the tradition of village Shows, get out the aqua vac and the Show goes on. By 9 o’clock the sun was shining and the exhibition benches were filling up. Despite our recent weather, entries in horticulture were up with very pleasing comments from the judges on quality. Floral Art entries were up with some superb arrangements. Baking, cookery, art and photography were all very well supported with some beautiful work in handicrafts. Children’s entries were doubled this year, we are so pleased to be working again with the Village School, as the children are our future Show. From Show opening we were foot tapping and dancing with Meze Mundo, who, after the stress of staging exhibits, brought the day to life with their fabulous street music. We had people enjoying the trade stands, craft demonstrations, the dog show and the hilarious terrier racing was enjoyed by all. A lovely display of vintage/classic cars was also very popular. In the courtyard of the Castle we had archery, axe throwing and Warkworth Drama Group gave two enactments of the Siege of 1327, which were very much enjoyed. The Fun Run was revamped again this year, with over fifty runners enjoying the beautiful riverside walk that the course took. We had no course records broken but lots of enjoyment by Mums, Dads and children, just as a village fun run should be. Our only glitch on Saturday was modern day technology, with a failure of our card machines which was entirely out of our control, we were switched off by a higher power and the two hour telephone wait for support did not fit the Show timetable. I would like to thank everyone from the organising committee who have put in twelve months work, to every entrant in the show, we would not have a Show without any of you, and to everyone who attended the Show for the enjoyment of the day.
